JOB TITLE: Mechanical Plant Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION:
As
a Plant Engineer, you will demonstrate the ability to function independently and
productively as an Engineer, providing consulting engineering services to
Facilities Operations, Maintenance, and venders.
Display strong investigative or technological orientation with
independence and strong initiative and commitment.
Contribute to long-term strategic development of complex engineering
projects and/or functional areas.
Organize and provide written and/or verbal presentations of work with
minimum input from supervisor.
Build credibility within group by performing high quality work.
Demonstrate willingness to assist others with problems to resolution.
Effectively communicate and defend results of own work at technical
meetings. Meet and communicate with team management and team members to assure
proper dissemination of information throughout the department and the site.
Make use of all available media to share business pertinent information.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports Facilities Operations and Maintenance to ensure that all
equipment is adequately maintained and functions properly.
- Designs and writes technical specifications. Prepares detailed scope
of work, construction estimate, and instructions for the fabrication and
installation of: Plant equipment, Construction projects, Demolition
projects, Process improvement projects.
- Designs electrical and mechanical systems and sub-systems.
- Prepares capital project requests for bids, evaluate bids, and make
recommendations.
- Oversee and/or perform site investigations.
- Provides technical assistance on problems in maintenance areas.
- Evaluates and prepares economic studies of new or modified facilities.
- Coordinate tests and troubleshoots new installations.
- Coordinates start up and commissioning of new equipment and/or facility
operations.
- Maintains effluent parameters within the limits established by Government
Regulatory Agencies, Environmental Engineering, Plant Security, Plant Fire
Department, and the Plant Safety Department in project preliminary phases,
during construction, and project close out.
- Perform and/or direct work necessary to complete final plans,
specifications, and installation/construction of assigned projects, ensuring
that all applicable standards and regulations are followed.
- Provide project reports and documentation such as functional
specifications, operating instructions, maintenance routines, and operating
statistics.
- Provide project scopes and specifications to in-house labor, venders, and
contractors for accurate budget estimates.
- Monitor, direct, and control activities of consultants and contractors.
- Perform design reviews with designers and process owners.
- Provide overall project control to adhere to budgets, scope, and schedule.
- Ensure all project personnel are working safely and within plant rules,
policies, and approved procedures.
- Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning
opportunities.
- Create and revise assigned site SOPs.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of building codes and construction techniques.
- High level of analytical ability where problems are complex
- Oral and written communication skills
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
- Demonstrate technical and professional skills in job-related area required
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Considered a fully competent Plant Engineer. Experience in developing
project scope and request for proposal/bid. Experience in cost estimating,
project budgeting and schedule control. Capable of managing multiple
projects at various stages of planning, design, procurement and construction.
Skilled with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office applications, and Microsoft Project.
Has obtained a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or MET. Structural
Engineering. Mechanical Engineering or EET. Preferred Plant
Mechanical Engineer should have five years experience with high voltages and
power distribution. Plant Mechanical Engineer should have five years
experience with HVAC and utility distribution. Structural Engineer should
be a registered Professional Engineer (PE).
